The yummy looking treats are made from solid beech wood and are a great sturdy shape for children to start learning the craft of pom pom making.  You may even be tempted to keep one for yourself!

The Macaron Pom Maker comes in a variety of fun flavours (colours) - Pistachio, Blackberry, Citrus, Lavender and Rose.

This craft tool is best suited to older children, but younger children can still have success using thicker wool and some assistance from an adult to get it started and also to help cut and tie off the pom pom at the end.

Product Materials & Care Instructions

Non-Toxic Materials

Made in Vietnam

Each Donut Pom Maker is made from solid beech wood and non-toxic paints are used for the glaze pieces.  It is made up of 4 half circle wooden pieces and 2 coloured macaron pieces.

The Pom Maker is approximately 6cm in diameter and comes packaged in a little cotton bag.  There is also a small instruction booklet complete with images to get you started with your own pom pom.

The smaller pom makers make a variety of sizes depending on your yarn of choice and the number of wraps you do on each half, but they are roughly 6-7cm before trimming them.

    About Rock & Pebble

    Rock & Pebble Logo

Pom Maker is part of Rock & Pebble and are based in California and England, UK.

Rock & Pebble is a new brand for beautiful toys and home wares, launched in early 2014 in California, USA and England, UK.  A yearning for childhood magic and unexpectedness inspires their original inventive ideas. The rare combination of wild imagination and highly refined modern design is the defining feature of the brand.

In Spring 2014 Rock & Pebble launched their first wooden dollhouses, simply named Apple House & Pear House.  These houses were intended to be objects to spark creative young minds and to evoke a sense of poetic beauty that appeals without age limit or gender.

“A dollhouse is that magical space where imagination finds its home.  The storytelling that unfolds in these tiny estates has no limits.  It’s something we’ll never tire of reinventing.”

The joy of imagination is the starting point. The simplicity of the design is achieved through a long and slow process of refinements that forms an aesthetic that feels fresh and timeless at the same time. Love of natural materials and ethical production is reflected in each of the designs.  Rock & Pebble plans to launch a series of new houses, accessories and toys alongside a range of homewares.

“We create things that we daydream and wished they really existed. How sweet would it be to live in an apple house?”

    Development of Skills

Fine Motor skills  Emotional skills  Communication skills  Thinking & Problems solving skills

(please see tab below for icon key)

The Donut Pom Maker helps build a variety of skills including:

    • Fine Motor skills:  children require a lot of fine motor skill to use the pom maker, although younger children can still be successful when using thicker, chunkier sized wool and lots of patience.  They will need to develop great hand and eye coordination to wrap the wool around the pom.  Older children who can use scissors independently will increase the strength of their hand and finger muscles trimming and cutting the pom pom.
    • Emotional skills:  although this is primarily a craft tool, I am almost positive younger children will want to steal this to engage in imaginary play games that include eating donuts!  Children build a variety of emotional skills when engaging in imaginative play - confidence, expressing emotion and when playing with peers, compassion for others.
    • Communication skills:  when making a pom pom on your own, or requiring the assistance of an adult to do this task, children will be practising and strengthening their communication skills.  Understanding the written and pictorial instructions, asking for help and listening to an adult's instructions when helping.
    • Thinking & Problems solving skills:  children will need to grasp concepts of following visual diagrams or watching videos and translating this information into doing the task themselves.  They will need to know the difference between on and under, around, up and down, left and right.  Once they become better at making pom poms, they will extend their learning by trying to make their own creations which require thinking outside the box, testing out ideas and then trying to fix the things that might not have worked well the first time.

    Icon Key

We have created an icon key to make it easier to identify the things you may find important in your purchasing choice and to help let you know what sort of skill development the toys can assist with when your child is playing with the product.

*This information is provided for help with normal development and safety measures should always be taken to ensure children are playing with age appropriate toys (e.g. don't let a small child who is likely to swallow toys to play with an item that carries the Not for under 3 icon).

Organic materials - products that are either 100% organic materials or predominately made from organic materials - we will include in the product information all the organic materials.

Recycled materials - product is predominately made up of recycled materials - we will include in the product information all of the product parts that contain recycled materials

Non toxic materials - products made entirely of non toxic materials - we will ensure all ingredients/product materials are included in the product description tabs and the safety requirements they meet (e.g. FDA safety)

Not for under 3 - products contain small materials which are not safe for children under 3 years of age.  These products are not recommended for children under 3 years old.

Emotional skills - toys carrying this icon can be helpful in developing the ability for children to express their thoughts and feelings and recognise these feelings themselves.  Once children are able to recognise these feelings, it is also important for them to learn the appropriate way to respond to them (e.g. not ok to hit when angry).  It is also about developing confidence, self reliance and independence that all lead to better mental health.

Sensory skills - toys carrying this icon can be helpful in developing the sensory system - taste, touch, smell, hearing, sight and the movement based senses - proprioception (in our joints/muscles that lets us know if our body parts are straight or bent) and vestibular (helps keep our balance).

Thinking and problem solving skills - toys carrying this icon can be helpful in developing the way the brain processes more complex information and then how it responds to this information to help build things like intelligence, memory, creative thinking, imaginative thinking and the ability to complete daily tasks that allow us to function in a community.
