Sow 'n Sow Sunprint Kit

Product Description

Product Description

Sunprint Kits are a fun way to experiment with nature and science.  The special blue paper goes through a chemical change when exposed to light, so you can make beautiful photographic prints of different objects.

Find an object - it might be a favourite trinket around the home, a beautiful flower, a leaf or a branch foraged on a nature trip.  Assemble the object in between the paper (the instructions will let you know what order) and some cardboard, leave it out in the sun for 1-5 mins and voila!  You have your print.  It does need to be rised with water to set the image, but once it is all dried, use it for gift cards or pop it in a pretty little frame.

This is a great activity for childre and adults to do together (they do recommend adult supervision).

About Sow n Sow

Sow 'n Sow

Sow 'n Sow combines a love of gardening with a flair for design to produce products which delight green thumbs and novice gardeners alike.

Michelle Brady is the brains behind this beautiful brand.  Michelle was seeking a more creative career that combined her love for plants and gardens with the dream of running her own business.  She works closely with the designer and illustrator Daniella Germain to produce these beautiful packets of fun.

The Sow 'n Sow seeds are non-hybrid, open-pollinated and non-GMO varieties that have been sourced from Australian suppliers.  Sow 'n Sow also value the environment highly (as do we!) and they believe in gifting products which don't end up in a landfill.  The Gifts of Seeds have a purpose, which is to grow into a beautiful flower or herb to be enjoyed for many months after the initial gifting.  Watching a seed germinate and slowly grown into a beautiful plant is a wonder and a joy.

Each Sow 'n Sow gifts of Seeds are printed in Australia on 100% post consumer waste recycled card.  The card is compostable and recyclable, and the plant labels which are included with each Gift of Seeds are also recyclable.

So you can see why we love this brand so much here at Wild & Whimsical Things.

Development of Skills

Being out in the garden helps to stimulate so many valuable skills:

  • Sensory Skills:  touching and feeling the soil both wet and dry is great for helping increase sensory stimulation, particularly if you have a child that doesn't like getting grubby.  The seeds also present with lots of different shapes and textures which are great to explore.  Once you have grown your beautiful flowers and edible plants, talk your child through the beautiful variations in colours, shapes and textures as well as having a nibble on those plants that you can eat too.
  • Gross Motor Skills:  digging up the dirt is a great way to work on those gross motor skills and strengthening up those arm muscles.  Just being outdoors is often a great way to promote lots of activity for younger and older children.
  • Fine Motor Skills:  Each of those seeds are teeny tiny, which means you need extra fine motor skills to pick them up and to place them all in the right spot to make sure they grow nicely.
  • Emotional Skills:  Encouraging children to get outside is great for getting some extra Vitamin D, which is the best way to help increase mood.  Gardening with little ones is usually a task that will require working together, so it is also a wonderful bond forming activity for the child and the adult they are working with.  Take your plant growing that extra step and start getting little ones thinking about gift giving and why they might want to share their beautiful flowers and edible plants with others to spread the joy.
  • Communication Skills:  Gardening helps explore a lot of communication skills.  Being able to identify new words, asking for help, working together and following instructions are just some of the many skills children will explore while planting their new seeds.

Icon Key

We have created an icon key to make it easier to identify the things you may find important in your purchasing choice and to help let you know what sort of skill development the toys can assist with when your child is playing with the product.

*This information is provided for help with normal development and safety measures should always be taken to ensure children are playing with age appropriate toys (e.g. don't let a small child who is likely to swallow toys to play with an item that carries the Not for under 3 icon).
